My First CD Cover Job

During my birthday in February of this year, my oldest partner in crime commissioned me to do a cd cover for the upcoming album of his latest artists, The Crank Brothers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cYLLPIOziE. My buddy owns and operates Bag Of Beats Records, a local Washington,DC record label. He asked me to gear the piece towards Ernie Barnes' famous "Sugar Shack" painting. Of course, I have too much of ego to copy, especially for my first commision, but I understood what he was aiming at (Capture the spirit of it}. I broke out the watercolors (Sugar Shack was done in oil so watercolor offered me the chance to distance my painting some from that one). I didn't want to post the image until the release was near. It's near so here it is.

I've discovered that the image was altered to add the new official member to the cover (fortunately for B.O.B. records, I had made sketches of this new official member from the video attached in the post. This took place as part of an earlier project that preceded the cover commission) Stuff like this always feels funny to an artist but that's the game. Anyhow,  here's the Commercial cover.
Check out the music:

BTW, I drew the logo image as well
